Ben Jimenez

Founder and CEO, Rounded Gear

Ben Jimenez is a co-founder and the CEO of Rounded Gear, the KYDEX holster brand that began as Concealment Express. He started the company in 2014 in a Jacksonville, Florida garage with two friends, and he still runs it from Jacksonville today.

Everything Rounded Gear sells is designed and made in its own shop. That has been true since the first holster and it has not changed as the company has grown past 3 million holsters shipped. Ben oversees the mold program directly: a library of more than 1,000 gun models, each one formed over proprietary precision aluminum molds built in house.

What He Writes About

Ben writes the buyer's guides and gun coverage on the Rounded Gear blog. The perspective he brings is a manufacturer's rather than a reviewer's. When a holster fits badly, when a gun's controls sit somewhere awkward, when two models turn out to share a shell or turn out not to, that shows up first in molding and in warranty claims. Recurring topics:

  • Holster selection by gun model, carry position and body type
  • Cross-fitment between gun models that share a frame or slide profile
  • KYDEX as a material: stiffness, heat stability and retention over years of daily carry
  • Gun model coverage, including the reliability questions owners actually ask
  • Concealed carry practice, comfort and printing

How Rounded Gear Holsters Are Made

The molds are the whole product. A mold that is cut correctly holds the gun without rattle or wobble, blocks cleanly around thumb safeties, slide releases and other controls without leaving dead air, and cuts away where an optic lands on the slide. Get that wrong and no amount of hardware fixes it.

Every KYDEX holster the company makes is optic cut and fully encloses the trigger guard, so nothing can reach the trigger while the gun is holstered. Retention is set with a Phillips screwdriver, no special tools, and every holster carries an unconditional lifetime warranty.
