Best Ruger LCP Max Holster: IWB and OWB Buyer's Guide

June 01, 2026 8 min read

The best Ruger LCP Max holster for most carriers is the Rounded Gear Ruger LCP MAX IWB Holster, from $44.95. It is our best selling LCP Max holster, with adjustable Posi-Click® retention and full trigger guard coverage. For pocket carry, pair the Ruger LCP MAX Trigger Guard Holster ($36.95) with the Pocket and Purse Trigger Guard Holster Kit ($9.95).

The Quick List

Ruger LCP Max Specs That Affect Holster Choice

These are Ruger's published figures for the standard LCP Max. The rows that matter for a Kydex holster are barrel length, overall length and slide width, because the shell wraps the slide and trigger guard. The grip sits outside the holster.

Spec Ruger LCP Max
Caliber .380 Auto
Capacity 10+1 (12 round magazine sold separately)
Barrel Length 2.80 in
Overall Length 5.17 in
Height 4.12 in
Slide Width 0.75 to 0.81 in, depending on model
Weight 10.6 oz
Sights Tritium front with white outline, drift adjustable rear
Manual Safety None on standard models; manual safety models available

At 5.17 inches long and 10.6 ounces, the LCP Max is light enough to vanish in a pocket or inside the waistband. That light weight is also its risk: a tiny gun with no manual safety on most models needs a holster that covers the trigger completely, in a pocket as much as on a belt. A holster also keeps the gun oriented the same way every time, which matters on a 2.80 inch barrel gun that is easy to grab wrong.

LCP Max, LCP II and LCP: Which Holster?

The LCP Max needs its own holster. Every LCP Max holster in this guide is rated in our fitment data for the Ruger LCP MAX. Our product listings note one exception: they fit all LCP Max models except those wearing the Magpul EHG grip.

The LCP II does not share the LCP Max shell. We build separate holsters rated for the Ruger LCP 2: the Ruger LCP 2 IWB Holster (from $44.95) and the Ruger LCP 2 Trigger Guard Holster (from $36.95).

The original LCP has its own holster too. The Ruger LCP IWB Holster (from $44.95) is rated for the Ruger LCP.

What we do not make for the LCP Max. There is no Rounded Gear belt loop OWB, sidecar, athletic wear or light-bearing holster for the LCP Max today, and no dedicated pocket holster beyond the trigger guard and pocket kit pairing below.

Pocket Carry for the LCP Max

Our pocket answer for the LCP Max is the Ruger LCP MAX Trigger Guard Holster plus the Pocket and Purse Trigger Guard Holster Kit, $46.90 together. The kit adds a pocket wing that catches the inside of the pocket as you draw, so the holster stays behind and the gun comes out clean. The same kit includes an 18 inch paracord for bag or purse carry. The kit only works with Rounded Gear trigger guard holsters.

  • Front pocket only, nothing else in it. Keys or a phone in the same pocket can reach the trigger and slow the draw.
  • Loose pants help. At 5.17 inches long and 4.12 inches tall, the LCP Max fits most front pockets, but tight jeans make the draw harder.
  • Practice the draw seated. Pocket carry is slowest from a car seat. Try it there with an unloaded gun.

What Actually Matters When Buying

  • A shell molded to the LCP Max. Kydex molded to the gun holds it by shape, not friction, and keeps a 10.6 ounce gun from shifting.
  • Full trigger guard coverage. Non-negotiable on a gun with no manual safety on most models. Every holster in this guide covers the trigger guard.
  • Retention you can hear. Posi-Click® gives an audible click when the gun is seated. On the IWB, tuckable and paddle you can adjust how firm it is.
  • The right grip. Our LCP Max holsters fit all models except those with the Magpul EHG grip. Check yours before you order.
  • A real gun belt for IWB. A light gun still flops on a thin belt. The Ultimate Concealed Carry Leather Gun Belt ($69.99) is 1.5 inches and 14 oz leather.

IWB vs OWB for the Ruger LCP Max

Factor IWB OWB
Concealment Excellent. A 5.17 inch, 10.6 oz gun disappears under a t-shirt. Fair. Needs an untucked shirt or jacket.
Comfort Excellent at 10.6 oz. Excellent. Nothing inside the waistband.
Draw Speed Good, once you practice clearing the garment. Faster.
Wardrobe Impact Very small. None.
Best For Daily carry, summer carry, backup carry. Range, training, open carry.

Appendix Carry Setup

  • Add the claw. The IWB and tuckable shells take the Holster Claw Kit, and the trigger guard holster ships with claws. The claw rotates the grip into your body.
  • Set the cant. Start near zero degrees for appendix and adjust in small steps.
  • Use a stiff belt. Appendix carry puts the weight forward. A 1.5 inch gun belt keeps the holster from tipping.
  • Check it seated. Sit in your car and at a desk before you settle on a position. Most comfort problems only show up sitting down.

Optics, Lights and Grips

Every Kydex holster we build for the LCP Max is optic cut, so an optic-equipped LCP Max needs no different shell and no separate decision at checkout.

A weapon light is the one real variant, and we do not make a light-bearing LCP Max holster. Our trigger guard holster is not compatible with a light or laser unless specified. The grip matters too: our LCP Max holsters fit all models except the Magpul EHG grip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ruger LCP Max a Good Carry Gun?

Yes, for deep concealment and pocket carry. Ruger lists it at 10.6 ounces and 5.17 inches long with 10+1 rounds of .380 Auto and a tritium front sight. The trade-offs are a short sight radius, snappy recoil and a less powerful cartridge than 9mm. Carry it in a holster that fully covers the trigger guard.

Can I Dry Fire Ruger LCP Max?

Centerfire guns like the LCP Max are generally tolerant of dry fire, but follow the Ruger instruction manual for your model and use snap caps if you plan a lot of it. Always confirm the gun and chamber are empty first. Dry practice of the draw from your actual holster is some of the most useful training you can do.

What Is the Best Pocket Holster for a Ruger LCP?

For the LCP Max, our pick is the Ruger LCP MAX Trigger Guard Holster ($36.95) with the Pocket and Purse Trigger Guard Holster Kit ($9.95). For the LCP II, use the Ruger LCP 2 Trigger Guard Holster ($36.95) with the same kit. For the original Ruger LCP we make an IWB holster, not a pocket holster.

What Is the Absolute Best Concealed Carry Holster?

The best concealed carry holster is one molded to your exact gun that covers the trigger guard, holds the gun securely and is comfortable enough to wear every day. For most people that is a Kydex IWB holster. For the LCP Max, our pick is the Ruger LCP MAX IWB Holster, from $44.95.

What Does "Mexican Carry" Mean?

Mexican carry means tucking a gun into your waistband or pocket with no holster. It is unsafe: the trigger is exposed, the gun can shift or fall, and nothing holds it in place on the draw. If you want the least bulk possible on an LCP Max, a Kydex trigger guard holster covers the trigger for $36.95.

What Color Holster Is Best for Concealed Carry?

Black is the best color for most concealed carriers, because it disappears against dark belts and in shadow if your shirt rides up. Color does not change how a holster performs. Our LCP Max holsters come in Black or Carbon Fiber Black, and both read as black from a few feet away.

How We Chose

These are our own holsters, so we say that plainly. We ranked them by what LCP Max owners actually buy from us, checked every pick against our live catalog and our fitment data, and left out anything we no longer sell. Gun specs come from Ruger's published figures. Every holster here is molded in Jacksonville, Florida and backed by our lifetime guarantee.
